How Does a GAP insurance Claim Limit Work?
All GAP insurance policies have a “Claim Limit”. This is the most that the GAP insurance policy will pay towards:
- the difference between your motor insurer's valuation of the vehicle and the original invoice price of the vehicle (Invoice GAP insurance), or
- the difference between your motor insurer's valuation of the vehicle and the cost of replacing the vehicle with a brand new equivalent at the time of loss (Replacement GAP insurance), or
- the difference between your motor insurer's valuation of the vehicle and the amount required to settle the outstanding balance of your contract hire agreement (Contract Hire GAP insurance).
- 25% of the total loss valuation of your vehicle - max' £10,000 (Top-Up GAP insurance).
You do not choose your own claim limit when buying one of our current GAP insurance policies. The limit is assigned automatically according to the policy:
- For ARCH Invoice, Replacement and Contract Hire GAP insurance, the claim limit is equal to the vehicle's original invoice price (or P11D value for Contract Hire), up to a maximum of £75,000.
- For Helvetia Invoice and Replacement GAP insurance, the claim limit is equal to the vehicle's original invoice price, up to a maximum of £50,000.
- Top-Up GAP insurance has a claim limit of £10,000.
Your applicable claim limit will be shown in your quotation and policy documentation. All claims remain subject to that limit and the policy terms, conditions and exclusions.
